IKIAM focuses on the user’s experience with their natural environment and how to generate that connection in a sustainable way. The organic form of the model is related to the dynamism of the Ecuadorian Amazon. The whole is floating on the natural landscape in this way conserving the existing vegetation.
The use of wood as a covering material abroad responds to a thorough investigation during the design process. The decision was made to use Seke wood, as opposed to other types of local woods such as Mashpi, for its resistance, durability and general appearance.
The design of the model incorporates elements of sustainability through passive techniques such as prevailing wind patterns, angles of sunlight reducing in this way the use of mechanical ventilation and generating climate controlled spaces.
IKIAM uses simple geometric shapes for a theme of constructability, which maintains an interesting and organic feeling.
